Premier Of Sarawak Highlights The Importance Of Data Analysts And Technology Experts For The Sarawak's Future
SIBU, 6 August - Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg emphasized the crucial role data analysts and technology experts will play in shaping Sarawak's future.
He firmly stated that "data is the new ‘oil’ of the future," and thus, Sarawakians must equip themselves to harness this valuable resource.
He said this In his speech during the 7th Convocation Ceremony of the University of Technology Sarawak, here.
Premier Abang Johari stressed the need for skilled data analysts who can efficiently analyze the vast amounts of data available today. He believes that by utilizing data effectively, Sarawakians can unlock new opportunities and drive progress in various sectors.
"Data is the new ‘oil’ of the future and therefore sarawakians will be able to prepare themselve of this new ‘oil’ by analysing the data that is available. So, we need a lots of data analyst. ," he added.
While data analysis is paramount, Premier Abang Johari also highlighted the significance of coding and decoding skills. He explained that having data alone is not enough; one must possess the ability to translate and process this data through coding and decoding techniques. These skills will enable individuals to extract meaningful insights and innovation from the data.
“We also need people who can do coding and decoding, because u have the data, but u have to know how to translate that data to the process of coding and decoding,” he added
However, Premier Abang Johari acknowledged the importance of data security in this digital age. He expressed the need for cyber security analysts to safeguard sensitive data from potential threats and intrusions.
"But data is something that precious and it must be protected. Along this protection, we also need cyber security analyst. I hope this area will insulate strategic data and the data that can be basis for us to move forward. ," he stated, emphasizing the importance of having experts in this field.
In his address, Premier Abang Johari also spoke about the growing significance of robotics in digitalization. He encouraged the graduates who wish to further their studies to acquire knowledge about robotics, understanding how they function and how they can be effectively integrated into various sectors, including agriculture. By embracing automation, Sarawak can reduce reliance on manual labor and drive efficiency in production processes.
“For those who want to move further in digitalization, is robotic. We have to know also the process of robot, how they move, ising robots in the process of production. So we dont have to fully rely on labour but rather machines including in our agriculture sector,” he explained.
As Sarawak transitions from fossil fuels to hydrogen, Premier Abang Johari emphasized the need for expertise in chip design. With the expected shift in energy sources, the demand for chips will surge, especially in various applications, including healthcare.
"I would like also sarawakians has expertise on chip design. Especially when u are migrating from fossil fuel to hydrogen. Everything will change, the conventional engine will not be there. Therefore a lot of chips will be required in machines including health care," he said. -Sarawakku
